The Kaleidoscope Players

"Bella and the Frog Prince"

at the Kaleidoscope Playhouse

(1602 West Beall)

What happens when “Beauty and the Beast” is mashed up with the “Taming of the Shrew” and the classic fairy tale of “The Frog Prince?”  Why “Bella and the Frog Prince,” of course, the Kaleidoscope Playhouse’s Winter KYT Players’ musical production written by artistic director, Stacy Hostetter.  With the theme of looking beyond the surface of someone to see what is really inside, the story takes place in the fair village of Windelmere on the edge of a swampland where everyone is perfect, kind and even-tempered except for Bella DeLindervane, the older daughter of a widow, who people see as terribly cranky.  In fact, Bella is a writer, very imaginative and creative, but terribly shy, and when she is told she must marry because of the law in the land, she sets out to change things, even if it means visiting the old hag in the swamp or believing in frog princes.  Along the way meet characters such as Tootleream the Terrific, Franklin De’ Croak, Queen Organza d’Castleghent, Bella’s family and the villagers of Windelmere, and of course the frog prince himself, Prince William.  Full of humor, complex characters, “swamp mayhem,” and songs such as, “Perfect Windelmere,” “When They Look at Me,” “Frogs on Logs,” “There Are Monsters!” and “My Only Chance,” this new twist on fairy tales is suitable for family members of all ages.
