An original show written and produced in 2008 by artistic director, Stacy Hostetter, and now refreshed as a musical, it tells the playful story of a magician in the year 1593, Benevere son of Denevere, who has been banished to the forest of Shadowgren for not being able to control his magic and the adventures that happen there when his magic does indeed go awry while practicing. Pieces of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” are interspersed through the play in the form of young actors from modern times rehearsing the fairy scenes on a stage in Central Park, who are brought back in time because of Benevere’s magic.  As with Shakespeare’s plays, chaos and all kinds of things out of order come to life in the forest (not only the modern children) as other folk Benevere meets – courtiers at a picnic, playful jesters, and forest fauna (surprise!)- try to assist him with his problem and help him return to proper society.
